Prabowo to Review Disaster-Affected Areas Once a Week

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto revealed his plan to visit directly the areas affected by flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra at least once a week.

"I plan to visit the area at least once a week to monitor developments," said President Prabowo in front of cabinet members and heads of state institutions during the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, December 15, reported by ANTARA.

Handling the impact of disasters in Sumatra is the earliest issue discussed by President Prabowo in the Cabinet Meeting this afternoon.

The President said that he had seen the disaster-affected areas directly and led a direct coordination meeting to handle the impact in the area.

"I've been there several times, to Aceh I've been three times, to North Sumatra twice, to West Sumatra only once," said the President.

The President also emphasized that the government would continue to work hard to restore conditions in disaster-affected areas, and the President hopes that rehabilitation will begin immediately.

"This disaster situation, I think is a situation that we must face with full vigilance, because indeed the problem of climate change, climate change, which affects our living environment is a global problem, a planetary problem, so that we have to be stronger, more resilient, more vigilant," said President Prabowo.

In addition, President Prabowo also responded to criticism from a number of groups who said the government was not present. President Prabowo said shortly after the disaster hit a number of regencies/cities in Sumatra, TNI soldiers and members of the National Police had descended to the location.

"We have deployed more than 50,000 (soldiers) TNI and Polri. 50,000 is the level of 50 battalions that have been deployed in the affected areas. If you say the state is not present, ah yes, we are just alert," said the President.

The plenary Cabinet meeting at the State Palace today discussed two main agendas, namely handling the impact of disasters and recovery plans, then the government's readiness to face the year-end holidays.

At the State Palace, President Prabowo was accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and the plenary Cabinet Meeting was attended by almost all members of the Red and White Cabinet, the heads of institutions, heads of agencies, the President's special envoys, the TNI Commander, and the National Police Chief.
