The Ministry Of Public Works Accelerates Handling Of Post-Disaster Connectivity In Sumatra

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the handling of road and bridge infrastructure damaged by floods and landslides in the provinces of Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said the connected lifeblood recovery of post-disaster areas because road and bridge access is the main key to logistics movement, emergency services, and community economic recovery.

"Therefore, we work without pause from the start to ensure that regional isolation can be handled as quickly as possible. Public safety and smooth mobility are our priorities," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 10.

Based on data up to 9 December 2025.72 national roads and 30 national bridges were damaged with progress handling in Aceh Province 51.14 percent, North Sumatra 78.69 percent, and West Sumatra 76.14 percent.

In Aceh Province, the handling of the national road and bridge sectors in vital corridors continues to be carried out. The handling that is being worked on includes the Krueng Meureudu Bridge on the Meureudu Section of Pidie Jaya/Bireuen, the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Bireuen City, North Aceh Cross, and the Teupin Mane Bridge on the Bireuen Bener Meriah section.

The Aceh National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of Public Works has also completed the handling of a number of strategic sections that were previously cut off due to floods and landslides, including the Banda Aceh Meureudu section.

The Lhokseumawe City Boundary Section has also been passed by Langsa City, with the handling of sediment that continues to be carried out in the field, while the Langsa City of Kuala Simpang has been freed from flood material deposits.

The Kuala Simpang City Section (Batas) of North Sumatra Province can be passed by all types of vehicles, the Kutacane City Section (Batas) of North Sumatra Province, now vehicles can also return.

For North Sumatra Province, there are 12 national roads and four national bridges affected by the disaster. Emergency handling is prioritized in a number of main corridors that are still cut off, including Tarutung Sibolga, Tarutung Sipirok, Sibolga Batangtoru, and Batangtoro Siingkuang.

All these corridors have been handled by landslide materials, hoarding road bodies, and traffic engineering from two directions.

Temporary access is also opened through alternative routes, such as Sidikalang Sibolga and the Siborong-borong provincial road section Panggaribuan Sipirok, so that community mobility is maintained during the recovery process.

Other vital sections that have also returned can be passed by vehicles, namely Sidikalang's 'Singkil' corridor Just 'Sorkam' Sibolga, Padang Sidempuan' Limited West Sumatra, Padang Sidempuan' Batangtoru.

In West Sumatra Province, there are 30 affected connectivity infrastructures and 12 national bridges. Recovery is focused on the National Road section in Padang-Bukittinggi in the Valley area of Anai, precisely at KM 63+500.

In addition, 12 additional landslide locations that eroded the shoulder of the road and one lane so that handling had to be carried out in stages.

Currently, a number of major intercity and district accesses in West Sumatra have been successfully reopened, such as Padang Pariaman Lubuk Basung West Pasaman bounds North Sumatra, Padang Panjang Bukitting Tinggi Lubuk Attitudes Batas North Sumatra, as well as Bukittinggi Payakum Butas Riau.

Connectivity of coastal and cross-provincial sections such as the Padang 'Painan' Indrapura 'Batas Bengkulu' section has also recovered.
