DONGGALA - The Donggala Resort Police (Polres), Central Sulawesi thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1 kilogram of methamphetamine from Malaysia in Parisan Agung Village, Dampelas District, Donggala Regency.

Head of Public Relations of the Donggala Police, Ipda Andhi Marjianto, said that two smugglers were arrested in the operation with the initials AR (55) a resident of Sioyong Dampelas Village and AN (38) a resident of Sipi Sirenja Village.

"So, these two perpetrators acted as drug couriers who took methamphetamine from Malaysia," Andhi said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 10.

The arrests of the two perpetrators stemmed from reports from the public regarding drug transactions around Pasar Agung.

"The AR perpetrator was arrested while trying to deliver the one kilogram methamphetamine to a buyer who is a resident of Siweli Village, Balaesang District," he said.

Another perpetrator with the initials AN was arrested the day after by surrendering himself to the Damsol Police.

"For buyers from this methamphetamine, a resident of Siweli Village with the initials MH is currently on the wanted list," he said.

Andhi explained that the perpetrators used the sea route from Malaysia to send the methamphetamine to Donggala Regency.

"The perpetrator AN took a package of methamphetamine from Malaysia using a wooden boat with four of his colleagues, for the identity of the other perpetrators we have pocketed and are in pursuit," he said.

According to him, currently the two perpetrators have been detained at the Donggala Police Rutan for further investigation.

"Both of them are threatened with life imprisonment or a minimum of 5 years to 20 years with a fine of Rp. 1 billion," he said.
