Trump Criticizes Zelenskkyy, Accusations Not Ready To Sign Russia-Ukraine Peace Proposals

JAKARTA President Donald Trump claims Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is "not ready" to sign a US-proposed peace proposal aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

Trump criticized Zelenskyy after US and Ukrainian negotiators completed negotiations three days on Saturday last week aimed at narrowing dissent over the US government's proposal.

However, in an interview with reporters on Sunday evening, Trump stated that the Ukrainian leader was hampering the progress of negotiations.

"I am a little disappointed that President Zelenskyy has not read the proposal, that was just a few hours ago. His people love him, but he hasn't," Trump claimed before attending the Kennedy Center Honors.

"Russia, I'm sure, agrees with that, but I'm not sure Zelenskyy agrees either. His people like him. But he's not ready yet," Trump continued.

To be sure, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not publicly expressed his approval for the White House's plans.

In fact, Putin last week said some aspects of Trump's proposal could not be implemented, although the original draft was very profitable for Moscow.

Trump has been in a hot-cold relationship with Zelenskyy since occupying his second term at the White House, insisting the war was a waste of US tax money.

Trump has also repeatedly urged Ukraine to hand over land to Russia to end the nearly four-year conflict, which he says has claimed too many lives.

Zelenskyy said at the end of last week he had made "substantial phone calls" with American officials involved in negotiations with Ukrainian delegates in Florida.

He has received the latest news by telephone from US and Ukrainian officials in the negotiations.

"Ukraine is determined to continue working in good faith with the American side to achieve true peace," Zelenskyy wrote on social media.
