NU Elderly Forum Requests Plenary Meeting To Determine PBNU Chairperson Postponed

The Nahdlatul Ulama Elderly Forum requested that the plenary meeting agenda be postponed and not be held first.

"The Forum recommends that the plenary meeting determine that the Acting Court is not held before the forum and deliberation are completed in accordance with organizational provisions," said spokesman for the Nahdlatul Ulama Forum KH Oing Abdul Muid Sohib after a meeting at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, December 6.

He said the forum also argued that the impeachment process for the General Chairperson of PBNU was not in accordance with organizational regulations as stipulated by the AD ART.

However, he said, the forum also saw strong information about violations or serious mistakes in decision making by the General Chairperson of PBNU which needed to be clarified through a comprehensive organization mechanism.

He added that the NU Elderly Forum also invites all parties to exercise restraint, maintain organizational order and avoid steps that have the potential to increase tensions.

"The Forum confirms that this issue is resolved through an internal NU mechanism without involving institutions or external processes in order to maintain the dignity of the congregation and maintain NU as a great asset of the nation," said Gus Muid, his nickname.

Gus Muid also said that in the meeting held at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, Jombang Regency, the NU Elderly Forum also suggested how it was sought so that Rais Aam and the General Chairperson of PBNU could meet in one forum. However, it is still being discussed again.

Meanwhile, PBNU Chairman KH Yahya Cholil Staquf said he always tried to open communication with PBNU's Syuriah ranks. He was relieved to be able to meet PBNU's Syuriah ranks in a meeting at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, Jombang.

He said that in the forum he gave an explanation and was equipped with documents.

He also considered that the PBNU Syuriah decision was problematic because it made replacements without giving them the opportunity to clarify.

"It's also outside of its authority, so it's all problematic. Later, it will be discussed with all parties from PWNU, from PCNU," he said.
