The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the findings of investigators in Saudi Arabia would determine the follow-up to the corruption case in the distribution of quotas for organizing the Hajj pilgrimage in 2023-2024 to the Ministry of Religion.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the KPK, Setyo Budiyanto, when asked that there were no suspects in this case. He said the follow-up would be decided after the leadership read the report from investigators who left for Saudi Arabia.

"We hope that they may be expected to be next week, maybe this week, this weekend they just returned to Indonesia. After that, we will definitely review the report. (Reports, ed) will be reported to the leadership," Setyo told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, December 3.

Investigators called Setyo had to go to Saudi Arabia because there were several things they were looking for. "And coordinate with the Saudi Arabian government to ensure that the allegations being investigated by investigators are in accordance with conditions in the field," he said.

Setyo ensured that the KPK would definitely determine the suspect in time. "Soon or later, yes, relatively," he said.

"Because if for example we accelerate it but then there is still something missing, yes, later the concern will be that the investigation process will make a little more work for investigators. But, if everything is detailed, everything is complete, I'm sure the investigation journey will be easier," he continued.

Previously reported, it was previously reported that the KPK was investigating allegations of corruption related to quotas and the implementation of Hajj in 2023-2024 to the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag). No suspects have been named for using a general investigation warrant (sprindik).

The general Sprindik uses Article 2 Paragraph 1 and/or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2021 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. This means that there are state losses that occur due to this corrupt practice.

State losses in the corruption case of quota and Hajj for the period 2023-2024 are said to have reached more than IDR 1 trillion. This number is still increasing because it is only the initial calculation of the KPK which continues to coordinate with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).

During the investigation process, a number of parties have been questioned, including Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. Investigators have also searched his house and found documents and electronic evidence that are suspected to be related.

Then, checks were also carried out on hundreds of travel agents or travel agents who organize special Hajj (PIHK) and confiscated money from them. However, the KPK has not detailed the amount because the calculation is still being carried out by investigators.
