At The Age Of 68, Suliyanti Faced 4 Years In Prison For The Jambi Regional Budget Bribery Case

JAMBI Defendant Suliyanti (68), a former member of the Jambi DPRD and the wife of the former regent, was sentenced to four years in prison in the 2017 Jambi APBD ratification bribery case. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor read out the charges in a trial at the Jambi Corruption Court (Tipikor), Wednesday, December 3.

The KPK prosecutor, Ridho, charged Suliyanti with a sentence of four years in prison and a fine of Rp. 200 million, subsidiary to three months in prison. The prosecutor also asked the panel of judges to impose the revocation of political rights for five years. Suliyanti's crime was declared to meet the elements of Article 11 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.

However, the defendant's attorney, Azhari, expressed his objection. In his defense note, he emphasized that his client had never asked or known about the flow of bribes related to the Jambi RAPBD for the 2017 fiscal year.

"Our client objected to the demands of four years in prison and a fine of Rp. 200 million. Apart from not knowing the request for money, the findings have been returned so that fines are not appropriate to be imposed," said Azhari, quoted by Antara.

He also said that based on the facts of the trial, the request for bribes was made by certain elements of the leadership, not by Suliyanti.

Responding to this, KPK prosecutor Ridho Saputra stated that he would stick to his demands as read out. The trial will continue with the agenda of reading the verdict on December 9, 2025.
