JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of North Kalimantan (Kaltara), Inkong Ala, proposed the construction of a Type B Hospital (RS) in Tanjung Selor when he met members of Commission IX of the DPR.

The proposal was submitted because Kaltara currently only has one Type B hospital in Tarakan City.

Moreover, the hospital bears a high service burden because it is a reference for all regencies/cities in Kaltara, including parts of East Kalimantan.

"With the addition of one Type B hospital in the provincial capital, we can unravel the congestion of patients that is currently happening," said Inkong Ala, Friday, November 28.

Ingkong Ala explained that the North Kalimantan Provincial Government has prepared an area of 11 hectares in Tanjung Selor, including plans to build mental health service facilities in the same complex.

"We hope that the central government can approve the improvement of health services in Kaltara to be realized immediately," said Inkong Ala.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives Irma Suryani when receiving the proposal stated her support, although physical development is not available at the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) in 2026.

"For 2026 there will be no physical development DAK. But that doesn't mean it can't be accommodated through the Revised State Budget," said Irma.

"The focus of the central government's budget for 2026 is the procurement of medical devices at hospitals that are already running," continued the Nasdem politician.

Irma acknowledged that the need for a Type B Hospital in Tanjung Selor as the capital city of North Kalimantan Province is considered urgent and has the potential to be prioritized in the upcoming 2026 Revised State Budget or 2027 State Budget.

"We will submit and oversee the proposal from the people of Kaltara through the working partner of Commission IX, namely the Ministry of Health," he said.
