SAMARINDA - The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of East Kalimantan Province has stopped operating unlicensed mountain rock mining in the tourism area in Samarinda.
"We immediately stopped the company's activities and urged them to immediately review the spatial regulations and complete licensing related to mining activities," said Head of the East Kalimantan Provincial Energy and Mineral Resources Agency, Bambang Arwanto, in Samarinda, Antara, Thursday, November 27.
This action was taken after officers carried out a surprise inspection (sidak) to a location claimed to be a tourist development area, but indicated carrying out mineral extraction activities.
During the inspection, the ESDM team found that the land manager did not have an official permit for mining or transporting rock material.
Bambang said that at the location a barcode sticker was found, but after being examined, the barcode was only an Approval for the Compliance of Spatial Utilization Activities (PKKPR), not a mining business license.
The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources asked that all material excavation and mobilization activities be completely stopped until the company completes the entire applicable legal and licensing process.
This control effort is considered crucial considering that the authority to issue mining permits for excavation C is now fully in the East Kalimantan Provincial Government.
"We apply strict selection standards in issuing mining legality in order to preserve the environment and good governance," said Bambang.
The strict verification process can be seen from data from the East Kalimantan ESDM Office which noted that only two excavation C mining permits were issued in the last two months.
The public is also asked to participate in monitoring their environment and reporting if suspicious hill dredging activities are found without a licensing information board.
