3 People Killed By Flash Floods In Malalak Agam, West Sumatra, SAR Continues To Search For Victims

The joint SAR team continues to search for victims suspected of being swept away by the flash flood that hit Jorong Toboh, Nagari (village) East Malalak, Malalak District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province (West Sumatra), on Wednesday 26 November.

"Earlier, we evacuated two victims who died with male gender," said one of the Padang Basarnas personnel Tomi in Agam Regency on Thursday, confiscated by Antara.

Meanwhile, three injured victims, he said, had been taken to the nearest hospital for intensive treatment.

The joint SAR team also succeeded in evacuating two elderly people who were trapped in the flood.

Tomi said that until now joint officers from various agencies are still investigating the search for victims suspected of being swept away by the flash flood, including evacuating residents trapped in the house.

Meanwhile, a resident of Malalak, Agam Regency, named Nova, said the unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday, November 26 at around 15.45 WIB.

At the time of the incident, he and other family members were at home.

"At the time of the incident, my family members and I were in the house. Luckily we survived, even though the debris of the flash flood reached home," he said.

Shortly after the incident Nova witnessed firsthand many buildings, especially collapsed houses, as well as piles of flood materials such as wood, rock, mud covering residents' villages.

"What I know is that two victims died," he said.

Separately, the Spokesperson for the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Sumatra Province, Ilham Wahab, said that as of Thursday afternoon, three victims died as a result of being hit by flash floods in Malalak District.

"It was recorded that three died and two were in the search. But this number is still dynamic and can change because officers are still searching," he said.
