Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno admitted that he was surprised and wondered why until now the improvement of infrastructure in the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area has not been completed.

In fact, he and DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung have led Jakarta for more than half a year. JIS has also been inaugurated and operational functionally since 2022. Where, there has been a change of governor and acting governor in Jakarta in recent years.

"To be honest, I've only been in Jakarta for six months. As soon as I saw this, I was surprised. Uh, it's not finished yet," said Rano in a focus group assessment (FGD) regarding the development of the JIS area at the Jatibaru Technical Service building, Central Jakarta, Thursday, November 27.

Rano said that the construction of JIS in the era of former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was an important achievement for Jakarta. However, he emphasized that there was still homework that resulted in the development of the stadium area being hampered.

"We are grateful that in the era of Governor Anies building the JIS stadium, but indeed we also see that there are many obstacles that cannot be completed because there are phases that are not finished, so they are stuck," said Rano.

According to Rano, the development of the international standard stadium in Tanjung Priok is one of the priorities of the DKI Provincial Government. This is because JIS has now become the headquarters of the Persija Jakarta football club and is one of the attractions of the city.

Meanwhile, the DKI Provincial Government currently also has other tasks such as the implementation of flood control programs such as river normalization to the construction of coastal and sea safety embankments.

"The question is, when do we want to finish it? While this is not finished, Jakarta already has a Giant Sea Wall assignment. This means that this needs to be discussed here. Although perhaps natural walls when the Giant Sea Wall starts," explained Rano.

Furthermore, Rano said that the JIS area development plan is in line with the policy direction in the DKI Jakarta Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) 2025-2029. The focus includes transportation integration, road connectivity improvement, provision of space for sports and cultural activities, to building a more inclusive urban environment.

"We continue to strive to develop a sustainable integration transportation system, improve the quality of road infrastructure and connectivity, and present city spaces that support sports, culture and tourism activities," said Rano.

"Then, building an inclusive and friendly city for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities," he continued.

Rano hopes that the FGD held today can produce concrete recommendations to improve public transportation services, regional connectivity, and JIS integration with various modes of transportation.

"I invite all participants to actively discuss, produce concrete, applicative, and sustainable recommendations so that they have a real impact on improving public transportation services, improving road network connectivity, and integrating JIS strategic areas with various modes of transportation," he added.
