Two Members Of The US National Guard Shot Near The White House, Perpetrators Successfully Paralyzed

JAKARTA - Two members of the United States National Guard were shot near Farragut West Washington DC Metro Station, not far from the White House on Wednesday.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the two soldiers had been taken to the hospital in critical condition.

"As you can see behind me, we have deployed all the power of the federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to deploy all of our resources to ensure we find the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act. We will trace every clue, any evidence," he said, quoted from The National 27 November.

Meanwhile, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey in a post on social media X who had written that the two members of the National Guard from his state were dead, later said they would reconfirm the news.

"We are currently receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two National Guard members and will provide the latest information after we receive more complete information," he said on social media.

Meanwhile, Mayor Muriel Bowser called the incident a "directed shooting".

Separately, Washington Police said a suspect had been detained, and the culprit was a single gunman.

A police representative told reporters someone came from an angle and attacked members of the National Guard who were on patrol. Other soldiers in the area responded to gunfire and managed to paralyze the gunman and detain them.

Commenting on the shooting at a metro station several blocks from the White House, United States President Donald Trump said the suspect was seriously injured, and voiced his support for members of the National Guard station stationed in the city.

"They are really great people. I, as President of the United States, and everyone related to the Presidential office, support you," he wrote on Truth Social.

Dozens of law enforcement vehicles were at the scene. A helicopter is circling over an area near the metro. About 10 members of the National Guard were near the scene.

More than 2,000 members of the National Guard have been stationed in Washington since the summer, on the orders of the White House.

The White House said this step was necessary amid a spike in violent crimes, although city officials said the numbers had fallen in recent years.

These armed soldiers often patrol the metro stations in pairs or in small groups.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he had asked 500 additional troops to be stationed in Washington.

"This will only strengthen our determination. We will never back down," said Hegseth.

"We will secure our capital, we will secure our cities," he said.
