JAKARTA - Malaysian law enforcement officers confiscated 22,700 earth beans products of various brands worth RM31,720 or around Rp127 million because they used fake halal logos.

The confiscation was carried out in a raid on a factory that processed and packed snacks in theANGE Industry Area, Taiping, Malaysia.

"Further examinations found that there was a halal logo on the packaging of the peanut products," said Director of KPDN Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, Wednesday, November 26, quoted from Bernama.

The raid was carried out at 11.45 yesterday after the Taiping Branch KPDN officers received reports from the public.

According to Ismail, the factory produces peanut products and snacks for the entire Malaysian Peninsula market.

When approached by the authorities, the factory owner was unable to show a valid Malaysian Halal Certificate issued by JAKIM.

The authorities then carried out the confiscation with allegations of violations of the 2011 Trade Description Law (Halal Certification and Marking) on suspicion of using the halal logo without the approval of the JAKIM.
