MAKASSAR The government affirms its commitment to accelerating the agenda of police reform as one of the main priorities for national law reform. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra in a public lecture at the Al Jibra Auditorium of the Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) Makassar.
Yusril said that the reform of the National Police institution is now entering an important stage after the Constitutional Court (MK) decided to prohibit members of the National Police from holding active civilian positions in various ministries and institutions.
The decision, according to him, must be followed up by the government because it is part of the restructuring of the police system according to public demands.
"The Constitutional Court's decision regarding the police will be used as a reference for the government. This will be the basis for the preparation of reform steps to strengthen the professionalism and accountability of the Police," said Yusril, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 24.
He added, in line with that President Prabowo Subianto has formed a Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform, which consists of 10 figures and is tasked with absorbing people's aspirations and formulating strategic recommendations.
"This commission works to accommodate the aspirations of the community, following up on public demands that emerged early last September. Within three months, the results will be submitted to the President," he said.
