Badung Regent Wayan Adi Arnawa said the plan to relocate the Class II A Penitentiary or Kerobokan Prison is one of the long-term spatial structuring instruments in the area.
"This effort is in line with the vision of structuring Badung's infrastructure which is more humane as well as encouraging a balance between tourism and the quality of life of local people," said Regent Adi Arnawa in his statement in Mangupura, Bali, Sunday.
He said Kerobokan Class II A prison has been in a densely populated area and is in a growing tourism zone.
For this reason, the Badung Regency Government has proposed that the former prison land be converted into a large-scale city park as a modern, safe, inclusive, and adaptive public open space to ecological needs.
"We are optimistic that the relocation of the Kerobokan Prison and strengthening the surveillance system of foreigners will bring Badung into the era of precision, digital, integrative and responsive tourism management to global challenges," he said.

The Regent explained that the plan had also been discussed with the Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto, and received full support for the plan.
"The results of our coordination with the Minister show the central government's strong commitment to support the relocation of the Kerobokan Prison. Furthermore, the MoU will be prepared as the basis for the initial law before the preparation of the feasibility study and the formulation of the new prison development plan," he explained.
The Badung Regency Government targets the preparation of the feasibility study to be completed in 2026 so that the construction of the new prison can begin in 2027.
