The Ministry Of Transportation Has Realized Mandiri Village Caring For Mangroves Through Perdes

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) seeks to create independent villages and care for mangroves through training in the preparation of village regulations (perdes), so that the legal products issued have the ability to restore to maintain the mangrove ecosystem.

This mangrove ecosystem rehabilitation program is carried out by Mangrove for Coastal Resilience (M4CR), under the auspices of the Directorate General of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation (PDASH) of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation.

"We continue to rehabilitate mangroves through various patterns, including through village legal products or Perdes," said the Provincial Project Implementing Unit (PPIU) Manager for the M4CR Program of East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) Asman Azis as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, November 23.

Village legal products are considered important because they are to ensure the sustainability of rehabilitation programs, strengthen institutional commitments, and provide a legal basis for the implementation of mangrove management at the village level.

Meanwhile, as an effort to strengthen the weight of the Perdes, the East Kalimantan M4CR on November 17 held technical guidance (bimtek) for the preparation and ratification of village/community legal products, to strengthen Mandiri Peduli Mangrove Village (DMPM) in East Kalimantan with village head participants, the head of the village deliberative body (BPD), and village assistants.

A number of village heads, BPD, and village assistants who attended the technical guidance were from Muara Badak Ulu Village, Salo Palai, Saliki, Sepatiin, Muara Pantuan, Tani Baru, Kutai Lama, and Tanjung Berukang Village.

There were also two urban villages in the coastal area of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, namely Muara Kembang Village and Muara Jawa Ilir Village.

"The approach to strengthening this legal product will be able to maintain the sustainability of rehabilitation after the end of the program, because with the village head, village officials and other authorities can continue activities that have been going well," said Asman.

In the activity that focuses on strengthening the governance of village-based mangrove rehabilitation, the participants receive guidance related to improving the draft perdes, understanding the mangrove rehabilitation policy, and the process of aligning village regulations with the need for coastal ecosystem management.

"Bimtek tersebut sangat penting karena Kaltim menjadi salah satu wilayah prioritas Program M4CR dari kawasan seluas 41,000 hektare di empat provinsi pada periode 2024-2027. Tiga provinsi lainnya adalah Riau, Sumatera Utara, dan Kalimantan Utara," ujar Asman.
