SERANG - Hundreds of residents from Bojonegara and Pulo Ampel sub-districts blocked traffic flow at Simpang Bojonegara, Serang Regency, Banten, as a form of protest against the activities of mining trucks carrying mining products operating outside the provisions.

The road closure, which is located at the access to the East Cilegon Toll Gate, resulted in total paralysis of traffic flow in the vital area, on Monday, November 17.

The Action Coordinator, Fahmi Adam, emphasized that this blockade was carried out because of the public's frustration that the residents peaked seeing the crew cargo truck being free to pass, even though the Banten Governor's Decree (SK) had banned mining truck operations from 05.00 to 22.00 WIB.

"We reject the large number of trucks loaded with mining goods passing during the prohibition period. The rules are clear, but they are not obeyed," Fahmi said on the sidelines of the action reported by ANTARA.

In addition to demanding control of operating hours, in its action the masses urged the Banten Provincial Government to immediately repair road infrastructure in the Pulo Ampel and Bojonegara areas which were deemed unfit due to heavy vehicle loads.

Residents also demanded that the government immediately realize the construction of the Serdang-Bojonegara-Merak National Road in accordance with applicable regulations.

Fahmi threatened that his party would hold an action with a larger number of people if law enforcement officials did not immediately take firm action against mining trucks that violated the rules.

"If there are still mining trucks that are free to pass without taking action, we will return with more masses," he concluded.
