The Status Of ASN Two North Luwu Teachers Recovered, Yusril Explains The Mechanism

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correction Yusril Ihza Mahendra emphasized that two teachers in North Luwu, South Sulawesi, namely Abdul Muis and Rasnal, returned to teaching as state civil servants (ASN) after receiving rehabilitation from President Prabowo Subianto.

Both were previously sentenced to 1.2 years in prison and dishonorably dismissed for corruption charges. However, after the decision to rehabilitate from the President, the status of the two was returned as ASN.

"They are automatically returned (as ASN). This means that in the past, for example, they were dismissed by the Regional Office or the Education Office, or by the regent or governor. With this rehabilitation, the governor must revoke the decision to dismiss and activate the person concerned," said Yusril, Thursday, November 13.

Yusril explained that similar cases had occurred in Indonesia. He gave an example of teachers who were previously involved in the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), who were then rehabilitated and returned to his status as a teacher after the Helsinki peace agreement.

They were actually teachers, but came to the forest with weapons. After the Helsinki agreement, they were rehabilitated and returned to being teachers," he said.

However, Yusril emphasized that the rehabilitation provided by President Prabowo did not erase the criminal status of the two teachers. Rehabilitation only serves to restore their employment status as ASN.

"If they want to abolish the sentence, please submit a review (PK) to the Supreme Court, even though the sentence has been carried out," concluded Yusril.
