PALEMBANG - Banyuasin Police, South Sumatra, have arrested a gang of thieves stealing iron pipes belonging to PT Pertamina's Bentayan Unit.

Tungkal Ilir Police Chief, Inspector M. Fachrie Persada Putra, explained that the gang consisted of four suspects: SM (39), ISW (40), ES (20), and IR (16).

The suspects carried out their act on October 23, 2025, targeting Pertamina's iron pipes from the Bentayan Junk Yard in Bentayan Village, Tungkal Ilir District. Police received a report and pursued the suspects.

"The perpetrators are suspected of breaking through a wall panel at the Pertamina facility to enter the premises and forcibly take the iron pipes," Fachrie said, as quoted by Antara on Thursday, November 13.

After conducting an investigation, the team arrested the four suspects in Bentayan Village. They were apprehended without resistance while on their way to deliver the stolen iron pipes to a recipient named Dede, who is currently on the wanted list.

"Today, we have arrested the suspects, along with evidence," he said.

He stated that during the arrest, police secured several pieces of evidence, including 30 pieces of 2.7/8-inch iron pipe totaling 150 meters, and a yellow Mitsubishi Canter truck with license plate number A 8545 YM, which was used to transport the stolen goods.

The total material losses incurred by PT Pertamina are estimated at IDR 84,705,900 (eighty-four million seven hundred five thousand nine hundred rupiah), based on the unit price of pipe of IDR 564,706 per meter.

The suspects are being charged under Article 363 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning aggravated theft, which carries a harsher penalty than ordinary theft.
