Meeting Australian PM, Prabowo Quotes Indonesia's Cultural Philosophy Of Being A Good Neighbor

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations between Indonesia and Australia as two neighboring countries that must look after each other under any circumstances.

In a joint statement with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Prabowo cited one of Indonesia's cultural philosophies on the importance of being a good neighbor. He believed that a strong relationship between the two countries would foster trust and a readiness to help each other in difficult times.

"In Indonesian culture, we have a saying: when facing an emergency, neighbors are the first to help us. Our families may be far away, but neighbors are the closest, and only good neighbors will help each other," Prabowo said in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, as reported by Antara.

Prabowo explained that Indonesia and Australia cannot choose their geographical location. Therefore, cooperation and good intentions are key to maintaining harmonious relations.

One form of cooperation that Indonesia and Australia will forge is in the field of defense and security. This demonstrates the commitment of both countries to strengthening friendship while ensuring security in both regions.

Prabowo also emphasized his commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

"As partners and close neighbors, we are determined to maintain the best possible relationship to strengthen and ensure the security of both countries. I think that's the fundamental goal," Prabowo said.
