Indonesia Elected As A Member Of The UN Board Of Auditors, Deputy Minister Of Foreign Affairs Of The Republic Of Indonesia: Strengthen Global Governance

JAKARTA - The election of Indonesia as a member of the United Nations Board of Auditors (UN BoA) is considered to have come at the right time in the midst of United Nations reform efforts, which are expected to strengthen global governance.

The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia was elected as a member of the UN BoA at the Main Session of the 80th UN General Assembly Committee V in New York, United States, Friday (7/11).

Indonesia's candidacy as a member of the UN BoA has been announced since 2021. Support from member countries has been collected through intensive diplomacy by the BPK and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both bilaterally and in various international forums, until finally Indonesia was elected by acclamation.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir, who was present at the election, said that BPK's electability was in line with Indonesia's commitments and many other countries to encourage governance reform at the United Nations.

"This membership comes at the right time, in the midst of UN reform efforts," said the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia, launching a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 8.

"As a member of the UN BoA, BPK is expected to contribute to strengthening global governance, especially in terms of finance and management at the United Nations," explained Deputy Foreign Minister Tata, his nickname.

BPK was chosen to replace the China Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) (China National Audit Office), which previously represented the Asia Pacific region. Within six years of service, namely 2026 2032, BPK will cooperate with two other members of the UN BoA, namely SAI France (Cour des Comptes) and SAI Brazil (Trinal de Contas da Unimension) to conduct audits of UN agencies.

Carrying the spirit of "Strategic Partner for Better Governance", BPK is committed to strengthening accountability, transparency, and good governance at the United Nations through independent, professional, efficient, and innovative examinations. This success also marks an increase in Indonesia's active role in global governance and accountability, as well as reflecting international trust in BPK integrity and professionalism.

Deputy Chairman of the BPK RI Budi Prijono who led the Indonesian delegation at the President Session of the 80th UN General Assembly Committee V emphasized that this achievement was a form of world recognition of Indonesia's professionalism and credibility.

"This success is proof that BPK plays an active role in encouraging good governance practices at the global level. Indonesia shows itself to be a competent, trusted partner, and has a real contribution," he explained.

It is known, apart from the UN BoA, BPK also continues to strengthen its role at the global level. This year, BPK was elected as Chairman of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) for the period 2028-2031 as well as hosting the International Congress of the Supreme Audit Agency (INCOSAI) XXVI in 2028.
