KUPANG - East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief (Kapolda NTT) Inspector General Rudi Darmoko ordered all ranks to confiscate illegal liquor (alcohol) that is still circulating freely in the NTT region.
Head of Public Relations of the NTT Police, Kombes Henry Novika Chandra, said the order was issued because illegal alcohol was often the main trigger for disturbances in security and public order (kamtibmas) in the island-based province.
Following up on the order, the NTT Police have held simultaneous alcohol operations throughout the NTT jurisdiction from 1 to 3 November 2025, and managed to find 9.6 tons of illegal liquor, Henry said in Kupang, Antara, Thursday, November 6.
The confiscated liquor consisted of various types of sopi, moke, and cap (ci) produced locally or traditionally. In addition, officers also secured 53 bottles of alcohol labeled with various brands that were sold without official distribution permits.
This raid, Henry said, was a preventive and repressive step to reduce the crime rate and disturbances in public order due to alcohol consumption.
"In some cases, traditional alcohol is often the cause of acts of violence, fights, and traffic accidents," he said.
Most of the confiscated alcohol came from traditional distillation without a production and distribution permit. All evidence is now secured at each Polres ranks to be destroyed in accordance with legal provisions.
In addition to taking action, the NTT Police also mapped traditional alcohol production locations for guidance to the public so that they could switch to a legal and safe business.
"We will not provide space for the circulation of illegal alcohol in NTT. We hope for the support of all elements of society to jointly create a safe, peaceful, and conducive security and security situation," said Henry.
The NTT Police Chief also appealed to residents not to produce, distribute, or consume alcohol excessively because it could have a negative impact on the safety and security of themselves and others.
