YOGYAKARTA - The Association of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) acknowledged that the trend of hotel room reservations in this province began to increase ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.

"This November, the 'hilal' has not been seen. On average December (reservation) has reached 60 percent," said PHRI DIY Chairman Deddy Pranowo Eryono as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 5.

According to Deddy, the increase in hotel reservations is an annual routine every time you enter Christmas and New Year's moments.

In addition, hotel business actors in DIY are said to have prepared a number of year-end packages, such as stay packages equipped with dinner, breakfast, and entertainment.

Deddy said specifically the average reservation rate in the Yogyakarta City area, especially Malioboro, had even reached around 75 percent in December 2025.

He estimates that the trend of reservation has the potential to continue to increase near the long holiday period.

Referring to the achievement of year-end holiday occupancy in the period 2022 to 2024, according to him, the central area of DIY can reach 95 to almost 100 percent.

However, for this year's holiday occupancy, Deddy admitted that he only set a target of 85 percent.

According to him, a number of factors such as weather, politics and the economy can affect tourist decisions in maintaining or canceling reservations.

Regarding the potential for hydrometeorological disasters in December, Deddy ensured that PHRI DIY would continue to coordinate with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Hotel business actors are said to have prepared anticipatory steps such as handling disasters in guests and providing periodic weather information.

According to him, weather information from BMKG will be forwarded to hotel guests through a room information system or directly through hotel staff.

In addition, hotels will also direct tourists to alternative destinations if their destinations are affected by bad weather.

"The BMKG provides information in general. Their special way is WA to our team," he said.

He added that the information would be submitted to guests through various channels, including private messages using the contact numbers listed during the reservation.

He reminded that the delivery of information to tourists remains educational and does not cause unrest, so they still feel safe to come to Yogyakarta.

Head of the DIY Tourism Office, Imam Pratanadi, said that he had prepared a strategy for equitable tourist visits ahead of Nataru so as not to be concentrated in the city area.

According to him, the promotion of alternative destinations has begun to be increased, including the Kulon Progo, Bantul, and Gunungkidul areas.

"So that they have other alternatives for destinations not only in cities and Sleman, but also in Kulon Progo, in Gunungkidul, and in Bantul, we will prepare them later," said Imam.

In addition, he said, managers of risky tourist destinations are also asked to review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling emergencies entering the rainy season.

"We make sure they run the SOP well, that's all. Because we can't prevent natural disasters from happening," he said.
