YOGYAKARTA Profile Abdul Wahid Riau Governor will be remembered as the shortest leader who was immediately caught in a sting operation (OTT) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). As is known, Abdul Wahid was only inaugurated as Riau Governor on February 20, 2025 and caught by the KPK OTT in Riau on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Reporting from the official website of the Riau Province Library and Archives Service, Abdul Wahid was born on November 21, 1980 in Anak Peria Hamlet, Mandah District, Indragiri Hilir Regency (Inhil), Riau Province. Abdul Wahid was not born into a rich family. He was even brought in by his parents to move from his place of birth to a remote village to open a coconut plantation.

Abdul Wahid spent most of his childhood in Riau Province. He studied elementary at Sei Simbar State Elementary School and graduated in 1994. After that he continued his first secondary education at MTs Sei Simbar and graduated in 1997.

After his graduation at MTs, Abdul Wahid began to move. He studied at the high school level in the Regency Capital, Tembilahan, precisely at MA Tembilahan. His older brother has not yet graduated to bring Abdul Wahid to work at the Ashhabul Yamin Islamic Boarding School in the Lasi Tuo area, Ampek Angkek Candung District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra.

After graduating from the boarding school, Abdul Wahid returned to Riau. In that province he continued his undergraduate (S1) education at IAIN SUSKA Riau now UIN SUSKA Pekanbaru City by majoring in Islamic religious education.

During his lecture at UIN SUSKA, Abdul Wahid was active in organizing and known as one of the campus activists. Not only active in movement, Abdul Wahid is also active in various youth organizations, especially those related to socio-religious affairs. From there he decided to join the National Awakening Party (PKB). Abdul Wahid chose PKB influenced by his santri background.

Not only being a member of the PKB, Abdul Wahid at that time served as Deputy Secretary of PC HMI for the period 2002 '2003. In the PKB party itself he was trusted as Deputy Secretary of the DPW PKB Riau for the period 20022004 and 20042009.

His political career managed to skyrocket for the first time in 2009. At that time he was successful in becoming the Riau Provincial DPRD and was appointed chairman of the Joint Faction. He again ran for the 2014 General Election and won a vote with a 2014-2019 term of office.

After serving as a two-term DPRD, Abdul Wahid nominated himself as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives in the 2019 Election and managed to qualify for Senayan. During his time as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdul Wahid was known to be quite vocal in voicing the aspirations of the people of Riau, especially in the field of infrastructure and education development.

After serving as DPR RI, Abdul Wahid decided to run as a candidate for Governor of Riau in pairs with SF Hariyanto as his deputy. In the election, both of them managed to qualify as governor and deputy governor for the period 2025-2030. Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Abdul Wahid as Governor of Riau on February 20, 2025.
