AMBON - Saparua Class III Correctional Institution (Lapas) is committed to improving the quality of food services for inmates by taking care of halal certification for processed kitchen products. Saparua Prison cooperates with the Central Maluku Regency Religious Affairs Office (KUA) for the process.

Kasubsi Pembinaan Lapas Saparua, Ellen D. APOtta, mengatakan kerja sama ini bertujuan memastikan standar kebersihan dan kehalalan setiap produk makanan yang dibajikan.

"This is also part of the development and improvement of service quality in prisons," said Ellen, quoted from ANTARA, Monday, November 4, 2025.

Prepare Administration And Verification

The Saparua Prison initiative was welcomed by KUA. The assistant for Halal Products for Central Maluku KUA, Hamzah Ohiobor, explained that the prison must prepare administrative data and register through the Silal application belonging to the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH).

In addition, the prison was asked to complete the files in charge of the kitchen, including ID cards, NPWP, active emails, and telephone numbers for the creation of the Business Identification Number (NIB).

"This effort not only fulfills administrative aspects, but also guarantees the quality and halalness of food ingredients managed in prison kitchens," said Hamzah.

After the NIB is published, the KUA companion team is scheduled to conduct a direct review of Saparua Prison within about one week as part of the verification process before the halal certificate is issued.
