DENPASAR - Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) and the Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) are encouraging cooperative business programs for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).
"This synergy is important, meaning that with the Ministry of Cooperatives, of course we encourage the formation of cooperatives for migrant workers in accordance with the expectations of the Ministry of Cooperatives at this time," said P2MI Minister Mukhtarudin in a press statement, Saturday.
The inter-ministerial synergy is carried out to improve the welfare of post-placement migrant workers.

For this reason, KP2MI and Kemenkop plan to increase the cooperation through a more operational Cooperation Agreement (PKS) after previously signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
This collaboration complements the Red and White Village Cooperative (KDKMP) program initiated by President Prabowo's administration and is targeted to reach 81 units throughout Indonesia.
Through this collaboration, Mukhtarudin said that the program will be integrated with 23 BP3MI (Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Center) which will become a training center and assistance for migrant workers in the regions.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Cooperative Minister Ferry Juliantono highlighted the general phenomenon that usually occurs among Retired migrant workers. "Usually, after returning from the placement country, they return to their respective regions and 'low ranks' again. The money doesn't know where to go," said Ferry.
According to him, Migrant Workers Cooperative is a strategic solution. Therefore, the ministry supports programs initiated by KP2MI.
"The money can actually be developed to be useful in the long term. We really support the Ministry of P2MI in the formation of this cooperative," said Ferry.
Ferry also emphasized the role of the Red and White Village Cooperative as an educational and empowerment instrument in the regions.
"Hopefully in the future, retired migrant workers will become members of cooperatives. They have advantages, language, experience, and can become accelerators for post-placement progress," he said.
"And through this collaboration, the government hopes that the retired migrant workers will not only return home with money, but also with sustainable business capital, skills, and networks to build the future of families and villages," he said.
Meanwhile, in addition to this cooperation, KP2MI is also working with the Ministry of Home Affairs through the signing of the MoU to encourage the Golden Migrant Village program, which is currently waiting for the legal umbrella.
KP2MI is also currently focusing on empowering Retired migrant workers through financial literacy for PMI families in the country.
"We ask for support and are ready to work together in socialization and education. Because this retired migrant worker has a competitive advantage, namely skills, experience, and language skills," he said.
