JAKARTA - The Pentagon has approved long-range deliveries of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, ensuring the support does not affect US supplies, according to some US and European officials.
However, the final decision remains with President Donald Trump.
CNN reported a Pentagon assessment submitted to the White House earlier this month, shortly before Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington. Ukraine has asked the missile to attack energy and infrastructure targets in Russia.
As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, November 1, the Pentagon's assessment received a positive response from some European allies, who said it removed concerns about the availability of missiles.
Plans have been drawn up to supply the system quickly if the president permits its delivery.
Meanwhile, during a working lunch with Zelenskyy at the White House, Trump said the United States was "chaotic" the Tomahawk missile and did not want to give it because the missile was needed in the US.
According to CNN, Trump's position changed after a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said the Tomahawk missile could reach Russian cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, and would have a negative impact on bilateral relations.
The White House and the Pentagon have yet to comment.
