Megawati Calls To Build A New World With Justice With Pancasila

Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri called on the world community to build a new global order based on human values, justice, and equality with Pancasila.

In the 70th Anniversary of the Asian Conference (KAA) at the Bung Karno Museum, Blitar, East Java, Megawati said Pancasila was not just a national ideology, but a universal philosophy that was able to bridge differences in ideology, race, and economic interests.

"The old world that was built on colonialism and imperialism must be replaced by a new world that is just," Megawati said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, November 1.

He also referred to the thoughts of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno alias Bung Karno at the 1960 General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), where in order to build a new world of justice, Bung Karno presented Pancasila to the world.

Specifically, said Megawati, the role of Pancasila is global ethics by balancing between the world of material and spiritual affairs, between individual rights and social responsibility, as well as between national sovereignty and international solidarity.

Megawati argues that in the midst of a global moral crisis, digital inequality, and a protracted geopolitical conflict, the world needs new universal values that are not rooted in power, but in humanity.

"Without a strong moral basis, the world will continue to be colored by hegemony battles like Russia's Ukraine war and the crisis in the Middle East," Megawati said.

He said the Palestinian issue and acknowledgment of independence sovereignty were absolutely the main focus, so Pancasila could become global ethics that glorify human dignity and reject all forms of oppression.

To realize this fair world order, the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia also highlighted the need for UN reforms to be truly democratic and represent all nations in the world.

With the Pancasila philosophy, according to Megawati, Bung Karno called for the importance of democratization at the United Nations by eliminating veto rights so that each nation is truly equal.

The call was mentioned in line with the discourse on reforming the UN Security Council, which is now strengthening again. The United Nations Reform Agenda 2024 report states that more than 70 member states support the removal or restriction of veto rights because they are considered to hinder the resolution of humanitarian conflicts such as in Gaza and Ukraine.

On the other hand, Megawati assessed that To Build the World Anewalias was rebuilding the world, as Bung Karno called, it is only possible if the world places moral value as the main foundation for the development and advancement of technology.

"The new world is not a world that is subject to machinery and capital, but a world that places humans as the center of civilization," said Megawati.
