2 Bridges In Tolitoli Break Flooded, Hundreds Of Residents' Houses Submerged

PALU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi Province reported that two bridges in Malangga Village, Galang District, Tolitoli Regency, were broken due to flooding that hit the area on Wednesday, October 29.

Head of BPBD Central Sulawesi Province, Akris Fattah Yunus said, high rainfall caused rivers in Galang District to overflow and inundate residential areas in three villages, namely Malangga, Kalangkangan, and Ogomoli.

As a result of the overflowing river, two bridges in Malangga Village broke after the operite part was eroded by the flow of water. In addition, a number of houses in Kalangkanggan Village were also affected by flooding," he said in Palu, Antara, Friday, October 31.

Based on the results of the BPBD assessment, 235 houses were affected by flooding in Kalangkanggan Village. A total of 67 families (KK) were affected in Pandoan Hamlet, 154 families in Loigi Hamlet, and 14 families in Togaso Hamlet.

Meanwhile, in Ogomoli Village, one unit of the culvert was damaged by the swift flow of water. Even so, there were no casualties or residents who fled.

Although the water has receded, the bridge in Malangga Village cannot be passed by two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles.

The Tolitoli Regency BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) together with the Central Sulawesi Provincial BPBD Pusdalops have conducted an assessment at the affected locations to record the damage and needs of residents.

"The current urgent need is to repair bridges and culverts so that residents' access can return to normal," said Akris.

BPBD Central Sulawesi Province has deployed heavy equipment to accelerate the dredging of overflowing rivers, as well as to coordinate across sectors with local governments and related technical agencies.

In addition, BPBD is also recording rivers that have the potential to experience narrowing of the flow to prevent further flooding.
