JAKARTA - A number of roads and settlements in Jakarta were flooded due to heavy rains that hit on Thursday evening. One of the areas severely affected is Jalan Kemang Raya and its surroundings, Mampang Prapatan District, South Jakarta.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the flood in the Kemang area was caused by a crack in the embankment in the Krukut River which caused a leak and overflowed water onto the road.
"Why was Kemang Raya yesterday flooded? Indeed there were faults, there was a broken embankment owned by Kemang Village which was cracked and then leaked so that the Krukut River water overflowed," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Friday, October 31.
He explained that when the flood occurred, the officers immediately activated five water pumps to flow water back into the river. As of early Friday morning at 01.16 WIB, the floods in the Kemang area had completely receded.
Pramono said that this incident became the basis for the provincial government to accelerate the river normalization program, especially in the Ciliwung and Krukut rivers, which often caused inundation in the downstream area of Jakarta.
"I have asked for this to be handled immediately. The DKI government will continue to normalize the Ciliwung River. I have signed the location and also normalized Krukut River which passes through Kemang Village," said Pramono.
He added that flooding in Kemang Raya was a recurring problem that had occurred for several years.
"If it is not handled from upstream, until whenever the Kem Chicks area will always be like that. I live in that area, it has been almost 5' 6 years, something like this has always happened," said Pramono.
Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that dozens of RTs were flooded due to heavy rains that flushed Jakarta, Thursday (30/10).
The flood had submerged 55 RTs in South Jakarta in the early hours of the morning. Inundation points are scattered in Petogogan, Bangka, West Kuningan, Pela Mampang, Duren Tiga, and West Pejaten, with water levels between 35 and 150 centimeters.

As of 10.00 WIB, most of the areas had receded and the remaining five RTs were in Jati Padang Village with puddles of water as high as about 40 centimeters.
BPBD said that the flooding in this location was caused by high rainfall, overflowing PHB River, and the breakdown of Baswedan Embankment.
