The UN Committee Urges Global Support For Palestinian Rights To Determine Their Own And Merdeka Fate

JAKARTA - The United Nations Independent International Research Commission for the occupied Palestinian Territories on Tuesday urged member states to use all available means to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire and provide broad international support for the right of Palestine to determine its own destiny and the creation of a Palestinian State.

The Commission submitted its report to the Third Committee of the General Assembly, which handles social, humanitarian and cultural affairs. Most of his work focuses on studying human rights issues.

The commission concluded "Israel is responsible for four acts of genocide in Gaza with a special purpose to destroy Palestinians" in the Gaza Strip, and found "President, Prime Minister and former Israeli Defense Minister have incited genocide," quoted from WAFA Oct. 29.

The chairman of the Navi Pillay Commission said member states must also focus on ensuring justice and accountability for all victims by supporting the International Criminal Court in its investigation and using universal jurisdictions to carry out their own investigations, including those of their dual citizens suspected of committing crimes.

Regarding Gaza, the commission found Israeli officials had shown clear and consistent intentions to establish permanent military control over Gaza and amended its demographic composition.

"Civil infrastructure and natural resources that are important for the survival of civilians in the corridors and buffer zones have been destroyed, fragmented land, and Palestinians have been forcibly moved. Israeli officials have publicly supported plans to move residents, build settlements, and annex land," he explained.

Regarding the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, Pillay said Israel's policies and actions, which have been implemented since October 2023, include "explicit and implicit support of colonial crimes, showing a clear intention to forcefully move Palestinians, expand the presence of Israeli Jewish civilians, and annex most of the West Bank."

He said his goal was "to prevent the possibility of determining the fate of Palestine's own and state and to maintain an indefinite occupation."

"I feel sad because, in my last presentation as Chairman of this commission, the post-World War II multilateral system has failed to prevent this genocide. The insufficiency of the international system has been revealed," he added.
