JAKARTA - The Ukrainian military said on Tuesday night that it attacked a chemical plant in the Bryansk region of southern Russia, described as vital to Moscow's war effort.
The attack was carried out using air-launched, French-British-made Storm Shadow missiles.
"A massive combined missile and air strike was carried out, including air-launched Storm Shadow missiles that penetrated Russian air defense systems," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app, as reported by Reuters on October 22.
"The results of the strike are being evaluated," the Ukrainian military added.
They described the plant as a "major facility" producing munitions, explosives, and rocket fuel.
Reuters could not independently verify the report.
Separately, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a Telegram post on Tuesday night that within four hours in the afternoon, its air defense units destroyed 57 Ukrainian drones in the Bryansk region.
The Ministry of Defense rarely reports on the damage inflicted on Ukraine in the war that Russia started with its massive invasion in February 2022.
Meanwhile, Bryansk Region Governor Alexander Bogomaz said in a Telegram post that Ukraine attacked the region with drones and missiles on Tuesday afternoon.
He added that no one was injured in the attack and no damage was reported.
