Papuan Police Ditpolair Fails To Smuggle 100 Cannabis Packages From PNG

JAKARTA - The Directorate of Water Police (Ditpolair) of the Papua Police, thwarted an attempt to smuggle class I narcotics of marijuana from Papua New Guinea (PNG) to Jayapura, Papua.

Patrols managed to secure 100 packages of marijuana and arrested six people on the boat, four of whom were PNG nationals.

"The smuggling carried out by sea, was revealed after the Papua Police Ditpolair Gakkum Sub-Directorate team received information about narcotics smuggling activities from the direction of Skouw waters to Jayapura," said Head of Intelligence Ipda Jarwadi Operational Ipnal, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 21.

It is said that the Papua Police's Gakkum Polair team using the Taktikal 01 Polair ship conducted investigations and marine patrols around the Holtekam Waters, Jayapura City.

At around 00.05 WIT, the team found a suspicious long boat passing from the PNG border to Jayapura waters and when the motorboat was approached, four passengers on the boat tried to escape by jumping into the sea.

Seeing this, said Ipda Jarwadi, members immediately pursued and rescued the four people who had plunged into the sea and secured large amounts of evidence in the form of marijuana.

The six people who were arrested were EW, JM (35), TN (33), MR (26), PI (19), and DM (25) and it is suspected that the marijuana brought from PNG will be chartered on motorbikes and stolen electronic goods.

"We will continue to tighten supervision on sea routes, especially in the border area of Indonesia' Papua New Guinea to eradicate the smuggling of narcotics and other illegal goods and when the six people were detained along with evidence at the Papua Police Headquarters in Jayapura," said Ipda Jarwadi.
