Sea Water Rises To 2.9 Meters, BMKG Asks Coastal Residents Of East Kalimantan To Be Alert Rob

BALIKPAPAN - The Balikpapan Station Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to residents living in the coastal area of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) to be aware of the potential for sea level with a height of 2.7 to 2.9 meters in the period 21 30 October 2025.

BMKG Data and Information Division Coordinator of Class I Sultan Aji Station Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan, Diyan Novrida, said that the tide with this height could trigger a number of impacts, ranging from tidal flooding, submerged ponds, to disruption of port and coastal residents' activities.

"The four coastal areas that need to be watched out for are Samboja (Kutai Kartanegara Regency) and its surroundings, Balikpapan, North Penajam Paser Regency, and Paser Regency," said Diyan in Balikpapan, Antara, Tuesday, October 21.

In the city of Balikpapan, the highest tidal peak is expected to occur on October 26, 2025, with a height of 2.9 meters at around 20.00 WITA. The lowest tide is estimated on October 25 with an altitude of 0.1 meters at around 13.00 WITA.

According to Diyan, the coastal area has many active ponds, so that tides have the potential to damage the cultivation of fish, shrimp, and crabs belonging to residents.

"Sea pairs can also interfere with loading and unloading activities at ports and social activities on the coast. Sea water can even enter residential areas, and it is risky for children playing on the beach," he said.

Early warning was also given to residents in the estuary area of the Berau River, Berau Regency, with the peak of tides on October 24, 2025 reaching 2.8 meters at 21.00 WITA. Meanwhile, at the mouth of the Mahakam River (Pulau Nubi), Kutai Kartanegara Regency, the highest tide is expected to occur on October 23's 25 with a height of 2.7 meters from 19.00 to 20.00 WITA.

BMKG appealed to coastal communities to secure pond equipment, delay sea activities when possible, and continue to monitor weather information and waves from official institutions.
