Heavy Rain And Tornado Continues To OCCUR, Cianjur Is On Standby Until April 2026

CIANJUR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur Regency, West Java, has set a hydrometeorological disaster alert status for the next seven months. This determination was made due to the increasing potential for extreme weather that could potentially trigger various natural disasters in the region.

Secretary of BPBD Cianjur Regency Asep Sudrajat said this alert status was a follow-up to the Decree of the Governor of West Java and the Decree of the Regent of Cianjur, which was in effect until April 2026.

"The standby status is enforced from the north to the south of Cianjur, because during the transition from dry to rainy season, disaster risks such as strong winds, floods, landslides, ground movement, to high waves increased," said Asep, Tuesday, October 21.

He appealed to the public to increase vigilance and preparedness, especially during heavy rains with a duration of more than two hours that could potentially cause disasters.

As an anticipatory measure, BPBD has alerted 354 volunteers in all villages in Cianjur Regency. Volunteers are tasked with monitoring, reporting, and handling quickly when a disaster occurs, including evacuating affected residents.

Over the next seven months, all volunteers remain on standby to speed up handling during disasters. In the past week alone, several disasters have occurred due to heavy rains and tornadoes, "he explained.

The determination of this alert status was carried out after a number of sub-districts in Cianjur were hit by hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, moving ground, and tornadoes. This condition is in line with the BMKG report, which predicts that high rainfall will still occur in the next few months.

In addition, the West Java Provincial Government has also set a hydrometeorological disaster alert status for all regencies/cities in its territory, including Cianjur.

BPBD noted that extreme weather in the last few days has caused landslides in Cibinong District and tornadoes in four other sub-districts, namely Cilaku, Cibeber, Warungkondang, and Sukanagara.
