Foreign Minister Sugiono Says President Prabowo's Presence In Egypt Shows World Trust

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto's presence at a high-level conference in Egypt shows confidence in Indonesia's consistency in fighting for Palestinian independence and sovereignty, as well as world peace.

Speaking at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta after accompanying President Prabowo, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia's involvement was a form of international trust.

"The countries involved in this negotiation process involve Indonesia and I think this is a form of trust and great concern from the international community for Indonesia's position and role as a country that consistently fights for world peace and independence and Palestinian sovereignty," explained Foreign Minister Sugiono, Tuesday, October 14.

President Prabowo is one of the few heads of state invited to attend "Sharm El Sheikh Summit For Peace: Agreement To End The War In Gaza" which was held at Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on Monday.

During the summit, United States President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Emir Qatari Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed a declaration aimed at strengthening the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, hours after Israel and Hamas exchanged hostages and detainees.

Foreign Minister Sugiono stressed that the Middle East Peace Deal emphasized the importance of efforts to stop the war in Gaza and start a new phase of peace in the region.

Indonesia, he continued, will always be ready to continue to be involved in maintaining peace in Gaza. Including the involvement of the TNI in the peacekeeping force.

"We have stated our readiness, but the details are still being discussed because there are a lot of modalities. What is certain is that Indonesia is ready to play a role," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

It is known, apart from the signatories of the declaration and President Prabowo, they were also present at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Center, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Jordanian King Abdullah II, to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

There are also British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian PM Mark Carney, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and European Council President Antonio Costa.
