JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek) Stella Christie emphasized the importance of developing superior human resources (HR) as the main key to facing global challenges of artificial intelligence (AI).

The key is not in the technology, but in humans. Human resources who have empathy, creativity, and analytical thinking skills will not be replaced by AI, "said Stella, quoted from ANTARA, Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Technology explained various global phenomena, including studies that show AI-based answers such as ChatGPT, are considered more empathetic and accurate than human doctors in several medical cases.

According to Stella, this is an important reflection that technology can surpass humans if humans stop developing human values and mind capacity.

AI Threats And Opportunities

Citing data from the World Economic Forum (WEF), Stella revealed that until 2025, AI is predicted to create 97 million new jobs, but at the same time eliminate 92 million old jobs due to automation.

Therefore, he emphasized that increasing competence and continuous training (upskilling and reskilling) is an urgent matter to avoid being left behind.

"If we don't adapt, AI will become a disruptor. But if we manage it wisely, AI will become an enabler," he said.

Furthermore, Stella explained that AI has four main dimensions of global challenges, namely threats to employment and economic inequality, vulnerabilities to cybersecurity, decreased information reliability (hoaxes and disinformation), and increased digital inequality.

However, these challenges can also be opportunities. AI can create new jobs, improve cybersecurity, strengthen fact-checking mechanisms, and equal access to education and health.

"AI is not an enemy of humans. AI is a tool. If we are able to direct, regulate and supervise it, then AI will strengthen the nation, not weaken it," concluded Stella Christie.
