5 Former FPI Officials Sentenced To 1 Year And 6 Months In Prison

JAKARTA - Five former officials of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Haris Ubaidillah, AhmAd Sabri Lubis, Ali Alwi Alatas, Idrus Al-Habsyi, Maman Suryadi are considered guilty prosecutors in the case of crowd and violations of health protocols and sedition in Petamburan. All five were sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

"Sentenced defendants Haris Ubaidillah, Ahamd Sabri Lubis, Ali Alwi Alatas, Idrus Al-Habsyi, Maman Suryadi to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment each with reduced prison term," the prosecutor said, reading out the charges in the East Jakarta District Court, Monday, May 17.

In the prosecution, prosecutors judged the defendants had helped Rizieq to incite the masses to attend the Commemoration of the Prophet's Birthday and his daughter's wedding reception in Petamburan on November 14, 2020.

In addition, the defendants and Rizieq Shihab according to prosecutors ignored the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic. They continued the prosecutor instead invited his supporters to remain present at the event. Thus, this incitement is considered a violation of the Health Quarantine Law.

All five are charged with Article 160 of the Criminal Code juncto Article 93 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia (Uu RI) Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.

"Declaring the defendants found guilty of committing a felony of sedition to commit a violation of the Quarantine Act," the prosecutor said.

In addition, they are also charged with Article 82A paragraph (1) juncto 59 paragraph (3) letter c and d of Law No. 16 of 2017 concerning the Establishment of Government Regulation Replacement Law No. 2 of 2017 on Amendments to Law No. 17 of 2013 on Community Organizations into Law juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st Criminal Code juncto Article 10 letter b criminal code juncto Article 35 paragraph (1) penal code.

"Imposing additional penalties on Rizieq in the form of revocation of certain positions as dreamers or members of community organizations for 2 years," the prosecutor said.
