AHY Optimistic RI-Swiss Cooperation Supports Efficient And Sustainable Infrastructure Development

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) held a bilateral meeting with the Vice President of the Swiss Confederation as well as the Federal Minister for Economics, Education and Research at HE Guy Parmelin in Jakarta, Friday, October 3.

The meeting was to strengthen Indonesia-Switzerland bilateral relations, especially in the field of sustainable infrastructure.

According to AHY, Indonesia and Switzerland have great potential to deepen cooperation, especially through collaboration that encourages green, efficient and inclusive infrastructure development.

"I believe there is great potential for synergy between Indonesia and Switzerland in the infrastructure sector. Over the past few years, the Swiss Business Hub in Jakarta has been actively encouraging cooperation between the two countries," AHY said in a written statement quoted on Saturday, October 4.

"Various business meetings have been held, including the Swiss-Indonesian Hydroenergy Conference which took place earlier this year. I look forward to the next concrete steps to further strengthen this cooperation," he continued.

AHY also emphasized Switzerland's superiority in developing sustainable infrastructure solutions. Starting from an environmentally friendly energy-based public transportation system, utilization of water energy as a major energy source to an effective waste management system through recycling and utilizing energy from insineration.

"Switzerland has a long experience in building a clean, efficient and sustainable economy. These good practices are relevant to support Indonesia's development agenda, especially in the development of clean energy and more affordable infrastructure financing," he said.

Meanwhile, HE Guy Parmelin emphasized Switzerland's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Indonesia. According to him, the partnership between the two countries has a strong foundation through the Indonesia EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which provides a clear legal framework for deepening economic relations.

"More than 150 Swiss companies have been operating in Indonesia, creating thousands of quality jobs and encouraging innovation. Through the Team Switzerland Infrastructure initiative, we are ready to support Indonesia's ambition to realize resilient and sustainable infrastructure development," he said.

As a concrete step from both parties, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Switzerland and the Indonesian Electricity Society (MKI).

The deal reflects a shared commitment to strengthening technical exchanges and exploring business cooperation opportunities in the energy and electricity sectors.

The bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Switzerland is expected to be an important milestone in strengthening relations between the two countries as well as supporting the national infrastructure development agenda to be greener, more efficient and sustainable, in order to encourage the economy and community welfare.
