Drones Also Appear In Belgium, EU Considers Threatening The European Union

JAKARTA - The drone activity detected aboard a military training camp in Belgium, again shows the entire European Union is under threat, according to the European Commission.

As reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 3, a spokesman for the Commission, Thomas Regnier, said they were continuing to monitor developments in member countries and continue to communicate with relevant authorities.

Regnier emphasized that the investigation into incidents and the determination of potential sources of threat is the responsibility of member countries.

He said the drone activity detected in Belgium once again shows the entire European Union is at risk, stressing the importance of the European Commission's President Ursula von der Leyen's proposal regarding the formation of a drone wall' to protect the region.

Regnier also highlighted the need for a thorough approach, stating that drone activity on Thursday also had an impact on Germany, so threatened countries are not the only ones on the front lines.

The Commission's main spokesman, Paula Pinho, said the proposed drone wall' would be focused on the east side of the region.

Priority will be given first to countries that are more vulnerable to threats, but its long-term goals include protection for all continents.

Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's speech rejecting European leaders' claims about drone violations, Pinho said his party did not listen to any speech he delivered.

Several European countries have accused Russia of being behind violations of their airspace by drones, but Moscow has denied the allegations.

Belgian defense officials launched an investigation after 15 drones were detected flying over Elsenborn military bases in East Cantons, near the German border, on Thursday evening local time, local media reports.

According to Belgian broadcaster VRT NWS, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken's office confirmed that the ministry had started an investigation into the incident.
