BANDUNG - The Tamansari Wildlife Foundation (YMT) has expressed its commitment to fix the Bandung Zoo (Bandung Zoo) so that it can be equal to an international standard animal conservation agency.
"Indeed, we already have a big plan to advance the Bandung Zoo. This zoo has great potential to become the pride of the city, even internationally," YMT leader John Sumampau told Antara in Bandung, Friday, October 3.
John said rejuvenation efforts had been carried out since 2017, including the construction of giraffe cages and bird appairers.
However, he admits that there are still many facilities that need to be improved in order to comply with international standards.
If you look at foreign parties, the conditions are even below the standard. Instead of being praised, instead, please obey me. That's why we haven't dared to promote abroad too much. This is what we have to fix, don't let there be another small bars," he said.
According to John, the rejuvenation of Bandung Zoo is not only oriented towards improving animal welfare, but also supporting Bandung City tourism.
With improved quality, he is optimistic that Bandung Zoo will attract more tourists from outside the region and contribute to Regional Original Revenue (PAD).
"Automatically, the number of visitors from outside the region will make the Bandung City PAD increase," said John.
In addition, YMT opens opportunities for cooperation with various domestic and foreign animal conservation institutions, including the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and the South East Asian Zoos Association (SEAZA).

"We have to work with them, because from there we can learn from each other, exchange animals, not just buy. With that collaboration, we can strengthen international networks while improving the quality of management," said John.
