JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta closed 36 illegal crossings spread across services from January to early October 2025 as an effort to improve the safety of train travel and road users.

"The closure of this illegal crossing is KAI's real effort to reduce the potential for accidents, both involving train travel and road users," said KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Ixfan Hendriwintoko, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 3.

According to him, the existence of illegal crossings is very dangerous because it does not have a security system according to standards.

He said the last illegal crossing closure was carried out, namely on Thursday (2/10) at two crossing points Cicurug-Parungkuda, Sukabumi Regency, including KM 28 + 6 / 7 plots of Cicurug-Parungkuda road and KM 28 + 7 / 8 plots of Cicurug-Parungkuda road.

KAI Daop 1 Jakarta prohibits the construction of buildings, walls, fences, embankments or other buildings, as well as planting high types of trees or placing goods on railroad lines that can interfere with free views and endanger the safety of train travel.

The prohibition refers to Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways, Article 178.

Then in Article 192, it is stated that any person who builds a building, builds a wall, fence, embankment, and other buildings, grows a high type of tree, or places goods on a railway line, which can interfere with the free view and endanger the safety of train travel as referred to in Article 178, shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 1 (one) year or a maximum fine of Rp100,000,000.00 (one hundred million rupiah).

"We hope that community support will not open or cross the closed route for the sake of mutual safety," said Ixfan.

In addition to closing illegal crossings, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta also held socialization to the public regarding the dangers of crossing the railway line carelessly.

KAI appealed to the public only to pass through official crossings that are guarded or equipped with crossings.
