Prabowo's Ultimatum: Fix BUMN 2-3 Years Or Cleaned

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that he would provide opportunities for State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to improve within a period of 2-3 years. If in that period there are no significant results, the government is ready to take firm steps in the form of cleaning.

"We will give SOEs the opportunity, in 2-3 years we will clean them. For ordinary trades, the fair result is 10% of assets. If our assets are USD 1,000 billion, USD 100 billion should be 100 billion a year," Prabowo said while speaking in front of a number of political party leaders in Jakarta, Monday 29 September.

Prabowo explained, if the minimum target of 5% or around Rp. 800 trillion is not achieved, then hard evaluation steps will be taken. If not 5%, then it's 3%. However, we give the target of three years. God willing, it will be achieved," he said.

The President also expressed his anger at SOE leaders who were not trusted. According to him, there are still leaders who treat state companies like private property.

"I ordered to clean it up, BUMN. Sometimes recklessly, the company loses instead adds bonuses to itself," he said.

Prabowo emphasized that he would not hesitate to involve the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) or the Attorney General's Office (AGO) if there were indications of corruption and abuse of authority. "I want to send the prosecutor's office and the KPK to pursue it," said Prabowo.

In addition to SOEs, President Prabowo also expressed optimism about the performance of the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI), which is said to be one of the major breakthroughs. I believe Danantara will create millions of jobs," he said.

According to him, the existence of Danantara is an important achievement because Indonesia now has a sovereign wealth fund that can encourage sustainable development.
