JAKARTA - Russia will carefully analyze whether the US Tomahawk missile that may have been supplied to Ukraine was fired using targeting data provided by the United States.

US Vice President JD Vance confirmed Washington was considering Ukraine's request to get the Tomahawk, which has a range of 2,500 km (1,550 miles) - far enough to reach Moscow if fired from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin previously said Western countries would engage directly in the war if they supply targeting and intelligence that would allow Ukraine to fire missiles deep within Russian territory.

When asked about Vance's comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was analyzing it thoroughly.

"The question, as before, is: who can launch these missiles? Is it only Ukraine that can launch them, or should the American army do so?" he said as quoted by Reuters, Monday, September 29.

"Who determines the targeting of these missiles? The American or Ukrainian side?" Peskov continued, confirming an in-depth analysis is necessary.

After all, he said, Tomahawk would not be a game changer.

"Even if this happens, no panacea can change the situation on the front lines for the current Kyiv regime. There are no magic weapons. And neither Tomahawk nor any other missiles, they will not be able to change the dynamics," Peskov said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously asked the United States to sell Tomahawk to European countries that would send it to Ukraine.

Vance said in "Fox News Sunday" that President Donald Trump would make a final decision on whether to allow the deal.

Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy to Ukraine, said Trump indicated Kyiv should now be able to carry out a long-range attack on Russia.

"I think reading what he (Trump) said, and reading what Vice President Vance said, the answer is yes. Use the ability to attack in depth. There is no such thing as a shelter," Kellogg told Fox News.
