CENTRAL LOMBOK - Central Lombok Police Traffic Unit, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province recorded the number of traffic accidents on the highway that caused the death toll to reach 88 in mid-2025.

"Temporary data from January to August 2025, of the 231 traffic accidents, there were at least 88 victims who died, ironically, this case is dominated by more children who are not old enough," said Head of Laka Traffic Unit of the Central Lombok Police, Ipda Sasmita Andika Candra in Central Lombok, Saturday.

He said the number of traffic jams that claimed lives was quite high, so his party continued to make various efforts ranging from prosecution to conducting socialization related to orderly traffic jams. "For traffic accidents that resulted in death, from the beginning of the year until now there are 88 people out of a total of 231 cases we are handling. On average, those involved in traffic accidents have many underage motorists, plus they are not wearing SNI helmets," he said.

Even though the police have made various efforts, his party admits that this is not enough. But the most important thing is the need for the participation of parents to pay more attention to their children so that they are not given too much freedom of driving.

"Moreover, they are still minors, psychologically they are not mature in taking a stand and are not yet proficient in driving," he explained.

So on that occasion, his party appealed to the people of NTB, especially residents of Central Lombok, to always obey and obey traffic regulations, because according to him, the beginning of the fatality accident began with traffic violations.

"Don't forget before traveling anywhere, don't forget to pray to the creator asking for protection and another family waiting at home," he said.

He also admitted that in addition to taking firm action in the form of fines for motorists who violate the rules. However, they are also currently intensifying socialization by targeting school children, this is expected to be able to suppress traffic accidents that cause victims to die.

"But indeed the most important part of parents or guardians to participate in their children's activities is very important. For example taking the time to take their children where they want to go. Because for socialization to schools, we have often done it," he said.
