Prabowo Continues Official Visit To Canada, Focuses On Trade Agreements

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Macdonald-Cartier Ottawa International Airport, Canada, on Wednesday, September 24 at noon local time, to immediately sign the Indonesia-Canada CEPA partnership, after completing a working visit in the United States.

This arrival moment is the beginning of the agenda for President Prabowo's official visit to Canada which will strengthen strategic cooperation relations between Indonesia and Canada.

Reporting from ANTARA, upon arrival below the plane's stairs, President Prabowo was greeted by Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu and Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Jess Dutton.

Also present was to welcome the arrival of the President, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Canada Muhsin Syihab, together with the Indonesian Embassy Defense Attache Ottawa Marsma TNI Edwardus Wisoko Aribowo.

From the airport, the President and a limited group went straight to the hotel where he stopped while in Ottawa.

On this official visit, President Prabowo is scheduled to carry out a number of important agendas, including a bilateral meeting with the Governor-General of Canada, Mary Simon at the Rideau Hall.

In addition, President Prabowo is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister (PM), Mark Carney at West Block, Parliament Hall.

The meeting of the two leaders is expected to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Canada in various strategic fields.

One of the main agendas in this official visit was the signing of the Indonesia "Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA CEPA) by the two countries".

This agreement is Indonesia's first free trade agreement (FTA) with trading partners from the North American region.

Previously, President Prabowo took off from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York at 12.20 local time (WS).

Also accompanying President Prabowo on a flight to Ottawa were the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
