JAKARTA - The price of red chilies in Jakarta increased in the third week of September 2025.
According to monitoring by the Jakarta Provincial Government, today the price of curly red chilies is IDR 69,709 per kilogram, large red chilies (TW) are IDR 56,167 per kilogram, and red cayenne peppers are IDR 51,137 per kilogram.
"Curly red chilies have increased by 12.68 percent, red cayenne peppers by 5.54 percent, and red cayenne peppers by 4.20 percent," said Hasudungan Sidabalok, Head of the Jakarta Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture Agency (DKPKP), to reporters on Tuesday, September 23.
Hasudungan explained that the reason for the increase in the price of red chilies, a horticultural commodity, is the dwindling stock from the recent harvest.
"The decrease in interweekly supply entering Jakarta Province is due to production disruptions caused by high rainfall in production areas, which causes the harvest to rot quickly," Hasudungan explained.
Furthermore, Hasudungan acknowledged that other food commodities experienced price increases, although not as significant as red chilies, namely livestock and rice.
The price of broiler chicken eggs rose 1.79 percent to IDR 29,156 per kilogram, premium rice rose 1.57 percent to IDR 16,537 per kilogram for the Setra I variety, and broiler chicken meat rose 1.26 percent to IDR 42,875 per chicken.
"The price increases for broiler chicken eggs and broiler chicken meat were due to higher feed prices resulting from increased demand during the long holiday for the Prophet's Birthday," Hasudungan explained.
Meanwhile, the price increase for premium rice was due to the ongoing recovery of rice distribution activities, following the adulterated rice case involving PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya.
"However, premium rice at the highest retail price (HET) has been available in modern retailers since early September 2025," he added.
