JAKARTA - Iraq's counterterrorism service said a senior ISIS leader was killed in a security operation in Syria coordinated with the US-led international coalition.

His commander, Omar Abdul Qader Bassam, known as "Abdul Rahman Al-Halabi", is the head of external operations and security of the group.

Reported by Reuters on Friday, September 19, he was accused of overseeing attacks in many countries, including bombing Iranian embassies in Lebanon, and planning other operations in Europe and the United States which were ultimately thwarted through intelligence work.

US Central Command has launched a series of attacks targeting ISIS figures in Syria.

US officials have warned the group wants to bounce back in the country after the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last December.
