The Arrest Of The 3 Kg Gas Oplos Syndicate Started With A Fire Case At Tanjung Priok Port

The Tanjung Priok Port Police managed to dismantle a 3 kilogram subsidized fuel supply syndicate into a number of 230 gram portable cans.

A total of 6 perpetrators of mixing portable gas cylinders were arrested by the police. They do mixing in their respective homes.

Tanjung Priok Port Police Chief, AKBP Martuasah Tobing said the disclosure of the mixed gas cylinder was because it was suspected that it was often the cause of the ship fire that often occurred at Tanjung Priok Port.

"Disclosure of mixed gas is carried out to avoid ship fires and dense housing housing. It is suspected that the cause is the misuse of Elpiji gas," AKBP Martuasah told reporters, Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Of the 6 suspects arrested, the evidence confiscated was an 11 kg of gas cylinders, 2 tubes of 3 kg gas cylinders, 557 cans of portable cans, 98 cans of portable cans, 440 portable cans of cover, 7 regulators, 4 units of scales and 4 units of mobile phones.

"These 6 suspects are from different groups. The average mode is almost the same, so a gas cylinder containing 3 kilograms is put into a portable can that is prepared for sale," he said.

Then this portable gas can is often used for cooking activities on the residents' boats and boarding rooms.

"In the process, it is not in accordance with the SOP. It is not permitted by the government regarding the voting because it is dangerous," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Tanjung Priok Port Police, AKP I Gusti Ngurah Putu Krisnha Narayana, said the six suspects had been conducting business in this illicit manner since 2024 and early January 2025.

"Their profits from one LPG gas are able to produce 10 to 12 portable tubes. This means that from the LPG price they purchased of Rp. 20-25 thousand, they were able to produce 10 portable cans which were sold in the price range of Rp. 10-15 thousand per can," he said.

The turnover obtained by the perpetrators from each one insertion of 3 kg LPG gas cylinders to portable gas reaches Rp. 190-200 thousand. The profit of Rp. 200 thousand is generated from each of 10 cans of portable gas.

"Approximately the profit reached quite a fantastic number," he said.

The perpetrators were charged with multiple articles for their actions.
