JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta City Government conducted a trial crossing in front of Cikini Station, to be precise on Jalan Pegangsaan Timur, Menteng District, Central Jakarta, Monday 15 September 2025.
This rail crossing trial was in response to the many complaints from train passengers who often jumped over the fence to enter and from the station.
Official access was previously only available on the north and south sides of the station, so some passengers chose shortcuts by climbing over the fence in the central area.
PT KAI has even raised the fence so that passengers do not jump over the fence, but the habit of jumping the fence still occurs.
The Mayor of Central Jakarta, Arifin said, this crossing was made as a quick step to reduce the habit of passengers climbing the fence.
"We are trying to take one of the solutions, we are testing today, we are making a crossing, making crossings for people going in and out of the station with a temporary duration of about 10 to 12 seconds. We will see the effectiveness first, because the traffic here is quite congested," said Arifin.
In addition to regulating the duration of crossings for people, the East Jakarta City Government also placed officers from the Transportation Service (Dishub) and Satpol PP to anticipate other impacts from this trial.

Dishub officers are tasked with regulating the flow of vehicles so that there is no buildup or congestion, especially from public transportation.
Meanwhile, Satpol PP officers will ensure that sidewalks remain orderly from street vendors who have the potential to disrupt pedestrian traffic.
Arifin said this trial would last about 1 week before it was decided whether the crossing would be made permanent.
"We'll see first, if this is effective, it will be permanent. We accommodate all parties, be it train users, KAI, or local residents. God willing, hopefully no one will jump again, because it has been accommodated," he said.
Pelican crossing trials were also welcomed by the public using rail transportation, especially at Cikini Station.
